This photo is a personal favorite of mine. I waited for a while for this particular composition. This was taken at the Top of the Rock Observation Deck. The Observation Deck at the Top of the Rock is divided into three different levels. This particular photo was taken through a window looking at the North view's lowest level (on the 67th Floor). I was immediately interested in the interaction between the mother and the child. I found it odd that the child was dressed as she was considering the elements. I assumed that, perhaps, they were tourists with a nearby hotel room. I waited for some type of interesting gesture and was rewarded with the child's outstretched hand.
In terms of processing, I lightened up the specific portion of the observation deck and, in general, increased the exposure. Thankfully, I shot in RAW and was able to up the exposure as I purposefully underexposed the shot. I was forced to use noise reduction software. I'm not sure if I'm satisfied with the final product but I've always loved this composition.
